The singer was in Berlin on February 14, 2026 to celebrate the premiere of her film “The Moment” at the Berlinale. Afterwards, as befits the artist, there was a big afterparty in the Berlin club “Studio 1111″. Among those invited were the Austrian artist Wolfram, the French musician SebastiAn, the French DJ urtrax and Charli XCX’s husband, the British musician and drummer of the band The 1975, George Daniel.
Activists called for a boycott
However, there were calls online for a boycott of the event. Videos from the afterparty show Charli XCX in the company of Russian Anastasia Shevtsova, also known as “Petit.” Activists accuse the DJ of having close ties to the Kremlin, as her mother Zhanna Shevtsova is the founder of the Traditsiya Foundation, which runs projects in Ukrainian regions under Russian occupation – such as Donetsk, Luhansk and Mariupol. She is also Vice Rector for Creative Industries and Project Activities at the Moscow State Institute of Culture. According to “United24Media”, her daughter Anastasia Shevtsova is also still active in the Russian cultural scene and travels regularly to Moscow.
Charli shows solidarity with Ukraine
Charli XCX apologized to her fans via Instagram and explained that neither she nor her team knew about these connections. She also emphasized that she takes a clear stance against the Russian government’s actions in Ukraine and stands with the residents of Ukraine.
Anastasia Shevtsova also commented in an Instagram post. She explained that her family lives in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine and that she too was affected by the current events in Ukraine and did not wish harm to anyone. She also emphasized that she has been living in Europe for four years, is not politically involved and is concentrating exclusively on her artistic work.
The managing director of the event location “Studio 1111” also commented at the request of the “Berliner Morgenpost”. He explained that the club had no influence on the choice of artists as it was a privately booked event.
“The Moment” – a mockumentary of Charlie’s rise
Charli XCX has been a well-known artist for several years and won three Grammys in 2025 with her album BRAT. Her mockumentary “The Moment,” which premiered at the 2026 Berlinale, reflects the hype surrounding her iconic comeback album.
