Chappell Roan has given “her side of the story” after being accused by one of her security guards intimidated a young fan in a hotel in São Paulo.
On Saturday, Brazilian professional soccer player Jorginho published a post on social media in which he claimed that Roan had sent her security guard to discipline his wife and daughter after she briefly glanced at the singer during breakfast at their hotel. However, on Sunday morning, Roan clarified that the security guard in question was not part of her personal team and had acted on her own initiative.
“My wife is in São Paulo for Lollapalooza Brazil. This morning my daughter woke up incredibly excited. She even made a sign because she was so happy to see an artist she really admired – or admired,” Jorginho wrote in Portuguese and English to his five million Instagram followers.
Jorginho’s version of the incident
“Coincidentally, they live in the same hotel as this artist. At breakfast, the artist walked past her table. My daughter, like every child, recognized her immediately, was excited and just wanted to make sure it was really her. The worst thing about it: She didn’t even approach her. She just walked past the singer’s table, took a quick look, smiled and sat back down next to her mother. She didn’t say anything, didn’t ask for anything.”
After that brief encounter, “a large security guard came to their table while they were still eating breakfast and spoke to both my wife and my daughter in an extremely aggressive manner, telling her not to let my daughter ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people,” Jorginho continued.
“I honestly don’t know at what point just walking past a table and taking a quick look is considered harassment,” the soccer star continued, adding that the security guard even threatened to “file a complaint against her with the hotel while my 11-year-old daughter sat by crying.”
Jude Law’s daughter affected
Jorginho did not name his protégé, but according to People it is his stepdaughter Ada Law, the daughter of actor Jude Law and Catherine Harding – Jude’s ex-partner and Jorginho’s current wife.
On Saturday night, Roan thanked her security team during her set at Lollapalooza Brazil: “I’m so grateful – thank you, and thank you to my crew, my security, my band and everyone who works behind the scenes.”
On Sunday morning, as the controversy grew, the singer took to Instagram to clarify that she was not responsible for the incident and apologized to the mother and daughter.

“I’ll just now my side of the story tell what happened today to a mother and child who had to deal with a security guard, which is not part of my personal securityRoan emphasized.
“I didn’t see any woman or child, no one came to me, no one bothered me. And I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel. I think those people were staying there too. I didn’t ask that security guard to go to the mother and child – they didn’t come to me, they didn’t do anything. It’s unfair for security to just assume that someone has bad intentions without having any reason for it, because nothing happened at all.”
Roan continued, “I don’t hate people who like my music. I don’t hate children. I’m sorry that someone made assumptions about the mother and child – that you were going to do something – and if you felt uncomfortable, that really makes me sad. You don’t deserve that.”
