There have recently been serious falls on the Olympic ski jumps in Predazzo. Now there were changes and soon another test.
There were also changes that affect both the large and normal hills. When asked by t-online, ski jumping race director Sandro Pertile said: “We have increased the inclination of the take-off angle on both jumps.” By half a degree. For the normal hill from 11.0 degrees to 11.5 degrees and for the large hill from 11.5 degrees to 12 degrees. By adjusting the take-off table, the flight curve for the jumpers is flatter and therefore easier to jump.
There was also an adjustment to the size of the jump: the normal hill was reduced from 109 meters to 107 meters. On the large hill from 143 meters to 141 meters. Pertile reports: “We carried out a test with around ten athletes, the feedback is positive.” According to Pertile, the next test will take place at the “Italian Championships Open” on December 23rd this year on the large hill in Predazzo.
However, it is not clear how many world-class ski jumpers will take part in this test. The World Cup for women and men will take place on December 21st in Engelberg, Switzerland.
According to Pertile, the suit changes were also well received by the associations. “The adjustment is working well, there was positive feedback from the teams,” said Pertile, who added: “We are also expecting feedback from our biomechanics experts.”
Pertile also emphasizes: “We are glad that everyone involved reacted so quickly after the weekend in Predazzo – where a combination of various factors led to some serious injuries. We are confident that the situation for women’s ski jumping has now improved significantly.”
