Chanel has announced Dakar, the capital of Senegal, as the venue for the Métiers d’art Show 2023, which will take place on December 6th.
The Métiers d’Art collections are a special tradition at Chanel. Every December since 2002, the French fashion house presents a collection consisting of ready-to-wear and couture pieces that honor the craftsmanship behind fashion.
Venues and backdrops are always chosen that are symbolic of the fashion house. Previous shows have taken place in Hamburg, the hometown of the then Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld, in a French castle in the Loire Valley, in the Ritz Hotel in Paris or in more distant destinations such as Mumbai in India or Dallas in the United States.
In choosing Dakar, the fashion house aims to reconcile its craftsmanship with “the city’s artistic energy and cultural life.”
