On Tuesday morning, the French fashion house Chanel took its guests to the south of France – to the garden of the famous art center Villa Noailles. The guests also included rapper Usher, Penelope Cruz and German actress Marlene Burow. On site, a labyrinth of black, cubist structures was modeled after the building’s 1920s modernist architecture. A huge photo mural depicted the panoramic view of the city of Hyères from there.

The leitmotif of the spring/summer 2024 collection was particularly the garden of the art center. Floral patterns were found as applications on transparent tops or as expressive prints on trousers and dresses. Creative director Virginie Viard’s new designs were an eclectic mix that would appeal to customers of all ages. Crop tops and tight skirts that barely cover the buttocks alternated with wide culottes and elegant costumes for every occasion. Flip-flop sandals were worn with flowing pleated dresses, and the classic tweed jacket was combined with sporty jeans.

Once commissioned by the art patron Charles de Noailles (1891-1981), the villa quickly became an important meeting point for the artistic avant-garde of the time. Today the international festival for fashion and photography takes place there once a year. (dpa)
