30 years ago, on October 8, 1992, Willy Brandt died. On Saturday, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (64, SPD) and the Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (44, SPD) paid tribute to him with a wreath-laying ceremony at his grave in the Zehlendorf forest cemetery.

Other leading Social Democrats were there, including party leader Saskia Esken, Wolfgang Thierse, Dennis Buchner and Martin Schulz.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the death of the former governing mayor, federal chancellor and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Giffey said: “When the time for diplomacy arrives again in world politics, then the actors will hopefully heed Willy Brandt’s peace policy legacy, whose roots lie in Berlin.”
