The bad series of PSV in the competition has still not come to an end. After three equal games in a row, the Eindhoven team lost 3-2 to Go Ahead Eagles on Saturday evening. PSV took only seven points from the last seven league games and with that a second title in a row seems very far away.
Go Ahead Eagles was still too strong on Wednesday evening in the semi -final of the Toto KNVB Cup. PSV had a chance to win sporting revenge three days later. The guests knew that they had to tap out of a different keg and started the game sharply. The team of trainer Peter Bosz immediately put full busy and lurked at an early opening goal. Midfielder Ismael Saibari in particular impressed with his rushes and actions.
Poorly defending
The Eindhoven goal did not fall and after 23 minutes the ball was on the other side. The PSV defense did not look good at first when attacker Victor Edvards broke through on the right and then Olivier Boscagli came too late next to Aske Adelgaard who slipped into the ball. “We are going into Europe,” sang the supporters of the home team as a teasing punch towards the guests.
Happy header
So another goal. The last time PSV held De Nul in the competition was on December 22, 2024 against Feyenoord: 3-0. After the 1-0, the audience in the Adelaarshorst stood even more noisy behind the team. Despite the sometimes hostile atmosphere, PSV came to the same level after half an hour of play. Boscagli took over a turned corner and reached the head of Luuk de Jong with his pass: 1-1.

The 1-2 already followed four minutes later. Noa Lang, who was whistled several times by the public, cut in from the left, pulled out and through the body of an opponent the ball fell in the top corner: 1-2. Long celebrated the goal by provoking for the profession with the fanatic supporters of Go Ahead Eagles. That caused even more treats towards the wing attacker.

It was already known that it can ghost in the Adelaarshorst. Certainly when Go Ahead Eagles played towards the own supporters in the second half. PSV had a hard time and was twice lucky that the VAR saved the team. First, referee Pol van Boekel pointed to De Stip after a violation by Luuk de Jong, but on the advice of the video referee the penalty kick was changed to a free kick. Shortly thereafter the Deventenaren came to 2-2, but again the VAR corrected the arbitration. Oscar Pettersson turned out to be offside.
Deserved lead
The pressure on Walter Benitez’s goal became so high that the 2-2 of Victor Edvarsen was certainly not undeserved fifteen minutes before time. This time the goal turned out to be valid and another hot final phase arrived.

It was survival for PSV and in the 86th minute Benitez saved his team by keeping the broken Oliver Antman away from scoring. The same Antman shot a minute later and that was the death blow for PSV. It is a defeat that arrives hard in Eindhoven. Leader Ajax can increase the gap to eight points on Sunday when winning at Almere City FC. Moreover, PSV has to look down, because the teams underneath go hunt in that second place.
