In the first leg of the quarterfinals the Umbrians were overtaken by the Spaniards where the Italian-Cuban Jantorena played. Civitanova hosts Zawiercie on Wednesday 25 March

Tie-break victory (23 -25, 19-25, 25-21, 23-25, 13-15) by Perugia in the first leg of the quarter-finals of Champions Leagueagainst the Iberian side of Guaguas Las Palmas (already beaten in the first phase, 3-2 away and 3-1 at home), capable of staying in the match after finding themselves two sets down. Lorenzetti fielded Giannelli-Ben Tara, Russo-Crosato, Plotnytskyi-Semeniuk, and Colaci libero. However, the first set proved to be a close one, with the Spaniards who, led by the always incisive Juantorena and Bezerra (20 final points, his team’s best scorer), despite never finding themselves in the lead, had the strength not to be pulled away, before Plotnytsky’s decisive point. The second set was uneventful, with Sir taking the lead right from the start, with supremacy that thanks to Plotnytskyi and Ben Tara (six points each) was never in doubt, with Crosato scoring the final point.

reaction

The Spaniards reacted at the start of the third set up to 10-6, only to then suffer a break from the Umbrians up to 10-10. It then went on to 18-18, before Guaguas’s extension to 22-18, the comeback attempt to 22-20 and the decisive extension to 25-21, with a block by Rousseaux on Ben Tara. Fourth set still characterized by balance until the Spaniards extended their lead to 23-21 and hence the success at 25-23, with a final attack by Spencer. In the decisive fifth set, the Umbrians broke from 4-4 to 4-8 (ace by Plotnytskyi), with the final point scored by Ben Tarain. The return match will be played on Wednesday 1st April at 8.30pm in Perugia. In the end, Ben Tara’s 28 were decisive, but also Russo’s 14 with five blocks
