Paris St. Germain and FC Bayern face a historic duel in the semi-final first leg of the Champions League – and are celebrated by the international press for it.
First the Bayern players high-fived each other, then they hugged their opponents from Paris Saint-Germain after a breathtaking spectacle. True to the motto: Until the next football festival in Munich, where the decision about who will reach the premier class final will be made next Wednesday. After Bayern’s crazy 4:5 (2:3) both fan camps celebrated their teams for a fantastic semi-final first leg, which has already secured its place in the history books of the Champions League.
“It was a very, very intense game,” said national defender Jonathan Tah on Prime Video. “We showed in many phases what kind of team we are,” added Bayern’s defender in a surprisingly calm manner. Everything is still possible, emphasized the 30-year-old. “We’re going into the second leg with full confidence, giving it our all. We want to get to the final.”
And the international media also tried superlatives:
“L’Equipe”: “The shock turns irrational. (…) After a ten-minute testing phase, PSG and Bayern Munich exchanged blows, which developed into a rousing battle of astonishing intensity and technical class.”
“Le Parisien”: “The Parisians win in a completely crazy game.”
“Le Monde”: “Paris emerge victorious from an epic semi-final first leg in the Parc des Princes. The first act of the showpiece match between Luis Enrique’s side, the reigning Champions League winners, and Bayern, one of Europe’s best teams, lived up to all expectations with nine goals on Tuesday.”
“RMC”: “Nine goals and some unforgettable moments, but Paris will regret it. The Parc des Princes was the scene of one of the best games of the year, one of the greatest in the history of the Champions League.”
“Marca”: “The duel was announced as the final before the final and it delivered what it promised. PSG and Bayern offered a game the likes of which had never been seen this season – or in a long time.”
“AS”: “An ode to football that went in favor of PSG. Nine goals on a historic night that promises a second leg not to be missed. All the stars shined under the Parisian night sky.”
“Mundo Sports”: “PSG and Bayern create a football masterpiece.”
