The German handball champion SC Magdeburg meets in the preliminary round of the Champions League, among others, the French top team Paris Saint-Germain. THW Kiel has to deal with defending champion and record winner FC Barcelona. That was the result of the draw in Vienna.
Other SCM opponents in Group A are GOG Gudme from Denmark, FC Porto, Dinamo Bucharest from Romania, Telekom Veszprem from Hungary, Wisla Plock (Poland) and HC Zagreb (Croatia). In the somewhat more difficult Group B, Kiel will also meet Pick Szeged (Hungary), RK Celje (Slovenia), the Polish champions Kielce with national keeper Andreas Wolff, HBC Nantes from France, Elverum HB from Norway and Aalborg HB from Denmark.
