Champions League: Damper for VfL Wolfsburg

The footballers of VfL Wolfsburg had to put up with the first setback in the Champions League in the third group game.

In the top game of Group B, the German champions at AS Roma did not get more than 1: 1 (1: 1) despite their superiority. The women from Wolfsburg, who started with seven runners-up European champions, remain unbeaten.

Wolfsburg started the Champions League flawlessly but fell behind early on. Valentina Giacinti (3rd) surprised national goalkeeper Merle Frohms with a shot from the edge of the box and defeated her for the first time this season. Ewa Pajor (33rd) rewarded the effort of the women wolves, she completed a strong solo with a flick into the far corner. Frohms (77th) parried a long-range shot by Manuela Giugliano and saved the point.

Wolfsburg continue to lead Group B after two opening wins over SKN St. Pölten from Austria (4-0) and Slavia Prague (2-0). Roma are second with seven points as well. On December 8, Wolfsburg host the Romans for the second leg. On Thursday (6:45 p.m.), runners-up Bayern Munich is challenged in the top game in Group D against FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
