Due to good results of its clubs in the European Cup in the previous season, the Bundesliga got an additional place in the Champions League – this hope is almost no longer available for this season.
With an average value of 11,984 in the one-year ranking of the UEFA, the Bundesliga is in sixth place. Above all, the bad results of RB Leipzig in the Champions League and TSG Hoffenheim in the Europa League pull the value down.
The English Premier League is a clear favorite for another place in the Champions League, whose clubs lead the ranking with a value of 17.107 clearly ahead of Italy’s series A with 15.312.

Only the points that the clubs have at least safe are taken into account in the table. Changes are possible on the last matchday of the league. The chances for the Bundesliga to make up four places in the table are about zero.
This remains very safe for Germany in the 2025/26 season at seven starting places in the European Cup:
- Champions League (league): Bundesliga places 1 to 4
- Europa League (league): DFB Cup winner and Bundesliga 5th place
- Conference League (playoffs): Bundesliga 6th place
The table positions can shift if the DFB Cup winner has already secured a place in the Champions League or Europa League via the Bundesliga.
Allocation of the two places part of the European Cup reform
Since last season, the two countries have been given an additional place in the Champions League, whose clubs have together in the current season. The basis is the UEFA ranking for the current season.
Borussia Dortmund benefited from the good results of the German clubs in the 2023/24 season in the current season and moved into the Champions League as the fifth in the table. German football had eight instead of the usual seven starting places in the three competitions. Italy also got an additional place. The Bundesliga would only get another starting place in the Champions League if a club wins the Champions League or the Europa League and at the same time does not qualify for the Champions League through the Bundesliga.
Background: Due to the reform of the Champions League, the number of participating clubs increases from 32 to 36. From the four additional places, two are now awarded on the basis of this ranking. The two places are re-awarded every year and distributed regardless of the five-year rating of the UEFA. As before, this is decisive for the usual places.
There are points for the ranking as follows:
All points earned for the ranking are divided by the number of clubs in a country started in the European Cup. Germany started like Italy with eight teams, so one point of a club means 0.125 points. England and Spain had seven clubs in the three competitions, each point earned is worth around 0.143 points for these two countries in the ranking.
Champions League:
- 2 points: All victories from the league
- 1 point: all draws from the league
- 1.5 points: bonus for each round from the round of 16
- 1 point: All victories in qualification
- 0.5 points: all draws in qualification
Europa League:
- 2 points: All victories from the league
- 1 point: all draws from the league
- 1 point: bonus for each round from the round of 16
- 1 point: All victories in qualification
- 0.5 points: all draws in qualification
Conference League:
- 2 points: All victories from the league
- 1 point: all draws from the league
- 0.5 points: bonus for each round from the round of 16
- 1 point: All victories in qualification
- 0.5 points: all draws in qualification
- 1 – 2.5 points: for participation in the qualification
The result applies after 90 minutes or after 120 minutes. The penalty shoot -out plays no role in the evaluation of the game outcome.
There are also bonus points for placement in the final table. For the first table there are 12 points in the Champions League 6 points in the Europa League and 4 points in the Conference League. The places behind it get a gradual and fewer points.
