The Eisbären Berlin missed out on a place in the semi-finals of the Champions Hockey League (CHL). On Tuesday evening, the German champions lost 4:5 (3:0, 0:2, 1:3) in the quarter-final second leg at the ZSC Lions in Zurich. Kai Wissmann, Manuel Wiederer, Frederik Tiffels and Blaine Byron scored for the Berliners, who, like in the 3-4 first leg defeat, gave up a three-goal lead.
Careless polar bears squander a home win against Zurich
The Eisbären Berlin suffered a 3-4 defeat against the ZSC Lions in the first quarter-final game of the Champions Hockey League. In the meantime, the Berliners were already clearly in the front, but the top guests came back.more
In front of 6,684 spectators in the Zurich Arena, the hosts couldn’t find their way into the game at all in the opening third. The Berliners were more committed and consistently took advantage of their few chances. In the third minute, Wissmann scored in the power play, Wiederer extended the lead (13th). Immediately before the first break, Tiffels increased the lead to 3-0.

Just 28 seconds after the restart, Jesper Frödén shortened the score for the Swiss, who now improved significantly. The guests were able to withstand the pressure for a long time before Justin Sigrist scored Zurich’s goal (39′).
In the final section the Berliners became more dangerous again, Byron scored to make it 4-2 (43′). But just 22 seconds later, Juho Lammikko answered for the home team, who were then able to turn the game in their favor with goals from Sven Andrighetto (50th) and Derek Grant (54th).
