Challenger Milan: I pass to the final, tomorrow he will challenge Coria

The 21-year-old from Perugia has not yet lost a set in the tournament and is looking for the first Challenger title. The Argentine lost to Moroni last year

A year ago, Gian Marco Moroni won the Milan Challenger by beating Federico Coria in the final. The Argentine returned to the Aspria Tennis Cup in the 2022 edition, as seeded number 1, and is one game away from personal revenge. And it will again be Italy-Argentina: on the other side of the net here is Francesco Passaro, in the third final at Challenger level – all this year – on the hunt for his first victory. If successful, the 21-year-old from Perugia will enter the top 200 players in the world: having entered the tournament as number 254, he has already gained 36 positions.

NOW CORIA

Passaro has not yet lost a set in the tournament, in the semifinals came the 7-5 6-1 against the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan, coming from the qualifiers. After losing in Sanremo against Holger Rune and in Forlì against Lorenzo Musetti, Francesco will try again. And Coria is also a heavy name: the Argentine is number 70 in the world, if he wins he would go to 67th place in the ranking. In the semifinals came the success in two sets (6-4 6-1) against Alexander Shevchenko, student of Gunther Bresnik: “I’m playing solid tennis, I hope to continue on this path and that tomorrow will be the same, in order to obtain the title that escaped me last year – his words after the match -. Do I play a lot on earth? For an Argentine it is normal because there are no hard courts here. But if I continue to improve in the standings, I will play more on hard courts, both in the United States and in Australia. Dreams? I would like to enter the top-50, it would be spectacular to arrive in the second week of Roland Garros and win an ATP tournament ”. In the meantime, Passaro has to be challenged to take the tournament he missed last year: an appointment for 4.30 pm on Sunday.
