Challenge Roth: Oatmeal instead of pasta party for Anne Haug

Status: 06/23/2023 8:34 p.m

Two more days until the “Challenge Roth”. While the other athletes strengthened themselves at the traditional “pasta party”, top star Anne Haug relies on another source of energy, as she revealed on BR television.

Anne Haug is an old hand when it comes to the triathlon in Roth. Last year and the year before last she was even able to win the competition. And yet even experienced Roth participants get a briefing on the Friday before the competition: “Every year there is always something new and it’s good to collect yourself again and to know all the points. Maybe there are new route changes or dangerous spots.” She is happy to be informed again, she explains in the “Frankenschau” on BR television.

Avoid “tapping” in the transition zone

Haug has never had a procedure, at least she can’t remember it, according to her own statement. “I’ve already made a few snags in the transition zone,” she admits with a grin on her face. “So I hope it goes better this time.”

No “pasta party” for Haug

On the Friday evening before the triathlon, the pasta party is traditionally held in Roth. While Tagesschau spokesman and amateur triathlete Thorsten Schröder announced on BR television that he would eat ten plates of pasta, this event is not for Anne Haug: “I’m not that into pasta. I’d rather cook my own stuff and then eat it”. Instead, her favorite dish is boiled oatmeal. “I can eat them early, noon and in the evening,” says Haug in the BR interview.

Sparkling wine for the seniors

In Roth she meets familiar faces, and that also applies to her accommodation. She lives in a retirement home in the small town in central Franconia. The seniors are “really nice” and enthusiastic every year, says Haug: “They are the biggest fans. You walk past the retirement home at the end and when you’re close to the finish line, everyone stands outside and cheers you on and are really proud when you then maybe bring a bottle of champagne home with you.”
