On August 28, 2020, the 43-year-old lost the fight against his colon cancer. “Three years ago today I experienced a unique sorrow at the news of Chadwick Boseman’s death. The confusion was so severe that it took me months to trust the feeling of joy again,” the actress wrote in her current social post.
Lupita Nyong’o took the photo in 2018 while on a press tour in Seoul with the rest of the Black Panther cast. “We spent a wonderful 72 hours there and the memory of it fills me with so much joy. Death is hard to understand, maybe even harder to accept. But the love that springs from his life will inspire every anniversary of his absence. Chadwick may no longer be in our photos, but he will always be in our hearts,” recalls the actress, who plays Nakia in the Black Panther films.
Marvel also paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman in the second part of the Black Panther series. In the post-credits scene, it was revealed that Boseman’s character T’Challa has a son with Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o).
