CEO Glenn Chamandy resigns

An era has come to an end at Canadian clothing group Gildan Activewear Inc. On Monday, the parent company of brands like American Apparel and Gildan announced that Glenn Chamandy had stepped down from his positions as CEO and president after nearly twenty years.

Chamandy founded the textile manufacturer in 1984 together with his brother and has held his previous management positions since 2004. The company did not give reasons for his abrupt resignation.

Vince Tyra will take over leadership of the group in February

Gildan has already presented a successor: Vince Tyra will become the new CEO and President of the group on February 12th next year.

According to his future employer, the designated CEO has extensive experience in the textile and financial sectors as well as in sports management. Over the course of his long career, he managed, among others, the clothing suppliers Fruit of the Loom and Alphabroder.

Until Tyra joins, Craig Leavitt will lead the company as interim CEO and president, Gildan said. The former CEO of the fashion company Kate Spade & Company has been a member of the group’s board of directors since 2018.
