Years ago we bought our favorite records at The Music Hall in the Dorpsstraat. Nowadays we browse between the covers in second -hand record store My Cup or Vinyl. “I call them small time capsules,” says owner Cemile Tastekin (53).

Since two years you have come to the right place at My Cup of Vinyl for second -hand and new vinyl sheets. You can also have your plates cleaned, selling your own collection or enjoying a cup of coffee and a nice chat.

Six thousand second -hand plates

What started as a hobby grew into a large collection. At one point, Cemile had six thousand LPs in a storage. While sniffing in other record stores, she got an idea: why not start her own store? No sooner said than done!

Her husband built large bins in which Cemile can store her collection of second -hand plates. “He also made the LP holders on the wall,” she says proudly. Then records shine with striking covers from Angel Olsen, Pharrell Williams and Gary Clark Jr.

A good plate

Cemile cycles to the Dorpsstraat every working day to open its store at nine o’clock. There she makes a cup of coffee and chooses a good record to start the day. Which this is depends on the day. Today I have Carried to Dust set up from Calexio. This also runs now during this interview, because it fits nicely with the moment. ”

Artworks in itself

Listen to music via your phone? No, that’s not for Cemile. “Plates give a nice feeling and are tangible. You can let them slide through your hands, browse the plates, remove the Elpee from the cover and put on the plate. The sound of a music plate sounds much warmer. And in addition you have the cover, that are artworks in themselves.”

Records and people come together

What Cemile likes the best thing about her job? That the plates and people come together. “The elpees can bring up memories with people.” She mentions a good example: “Once a man came into the store because his wife was pregnant. He was looking for a specific album: I was made for loving you from Kiss. They were married on that number and wanted to give her a gift. Fortunately I still had that record. “

Social talk

People come to My Cup or Vinyl not only for an album, but also for a nice chat. “It is not only the older men who visit the store. More and more young people know where to find my business.” To make those younger fans happy, Cemile also sells records of artists of this time, such as Taylor Swift and Coldplay.

Good house

Cemile would rather not see her full -length plates leave. “It’s my babies. But when I see that the record is going to a good house, then I have peace with it. If possible, I would like to keep them all, but I also have to earn money.” There are two exceptions. The plate Guns don’t kill people … Lazers do from Major Lazer and the soundtrack of Deadpool 2 absolutely not gone. “These are showing off in the case and are too dear to me.”
