Celtic coach Brendan Rodgers: ‘Feyenoord reaches a high level’ | Champions League

Celtic coach Brendan Rodgers is looking forward to the first group match in the Champions League against Feyenoord. “They are the Dutch champions,” said the coach of the Scottish national champions, who will play against the Rotterdam team in De Kuip on Tuesday. “It will be difficult against them.”

According to Rodgers, Feyenoord has a strong team. “The team scores goals easily,” he also referred to the nineteen goals that Feyenoord has already scored in five competition games. “The trainer Arne Slot has been doing well since he was appointed. He changed the team and they challenged Ajax. Feyenoord reaches a high level and has fantastic players. We look forward to these meetings, home and away.”

Rodgers also said he was aware of the great history between both clubs. In 1970, Feyenoord became the first Dutch club to win the European Cup 1, the predecessor of the Champions League, by beating Celtic in the final. “We are happy with the draw. Celtic are playing against teams with a huge history. The 1970 match between Celtic and Feyenoord is a special story.”

Rodgers also discussed the link between both clubs in the person of former player and coach Wim Jansen, who died early last year. “He was a great coach for Celtic and meant a lot to Celtic. And he was a legendary player for Feyenoord and the Netherlands,” Rodgers said.
