CDA members vote in resolution for wolf-free zones

CDA members voted at the party congress this afternoon to a resolution calling on the central government to ‘remove the wolf from the Netherlands’.

Incidentally, the resolution does not advocate the shooting, removal or expulsion of the wolf. The text states that ‘removal is not an issue if the wolf can be kept in certain areas, so that the animal no longer poses a threat to local residents.’

Drentse CDA members, including provincial administrator Henk Jumelet, signed the critical wolf proposal that was discussed today at the party congress in Nijkerk in Gelderland. Furthermore, MPs Bart van Dekken and Siemen Vegter, among others, supported the resolution. The official authors of the resolution are Hoogeveners Femke Koekoek, Peter Koekoek and Bert Otten.

Deputy Jumelet, who is concerned with the wolf, discussed his support for the proposal at RTV Drenthe this week. “How can you let the wolf run its course in certain areas? And how can we make other areas wolf-free? It’s not a bad idea to look at that, this resolution builds on that.”
