CCOSMO releases “Pfeil”: German pop can be so authentic

CCOSMO has on September 8th. released his new single “Pfeil” – a blessing for German pop culture.

CCOSMO is a pop singer – and contradicts the common cliché of the “German pop artist”. The 26-year-old Berliner has not had an image written for himself, has not sold himself as an influencer on social media and has not won a talent show. With his new single “Pfeil”, the singer-songwriter from Osnabrück is now releasing a new, authentic song that stands out from the mass of weekly releases.

The track is a bittersweet reflection on the dilemma of being with someone when the wounds of the previous relationship have not actually healed yet. Thematically, CCOSMO follows on from the EP released in May 2023 PROXIMITY/DISTANCE which already has more than seven million streams.

CCOSMO: Going up with a do-it-yourself mentality

CCOSMO was first a producer and later worked as an editor and copywriter. His relationship with music grew at a young age because his grandfather ran a record store in downtown Osnabrück and already regularly supplied him with new music. CCOSMO dropped out of his teacher training course and from then on he earned his money as a pizza baker – this is how he also financed his passion for art. At the end of 2020 he uploaded his first song between two shifts at the pizza shop “Late night tears and vodka(a co-production with Burt Cash) on Spotify. The second single followed in February 2021 “Lost in you” – now major labels also became aware of CCOSMO, but they initially blocked it. The song was released in January 2022 “Quicksand” But his career received such a powerful boost that he signed his first record deal with Warner Music.

Lavish pop melodies with smart lyrics that could also come from his diary are CCOSMO’s strength today. And in “Arrow” he vividly describes how a new relationship is often an attempt to get over a separation: “She is the ray of sunshine after the rain, the first light after all the emptiness.” But one question is always in the room: “Why isn’t that enough?” – with guitar, piano and analog drums, the inner conflict is revealed. Good pop in German is by no means mutually exclusive, as CCOSMO once again proves with “Pfeil” with its likeable coolness and minimalist production.
