The cause of death of Catherine O’Hara, who played the mother in the Home Alone movies, has been revealed. According to the coroner’s office, O’Hara died of a pulmonary embolism. In addition, O’Hara had rectal cancer.
The death certificate states that O’Hara’s body was cremated.

Before his death, O’Hara had been rushed to the hospital in “serious condition” and was suffering from breathing problems. He was 71 years old when he died.
O’Hara had a rare congenital genetic diagnosis called situs inversus. It is a genetic abnormality in which the internal organs are located in a mirror image of the normal anatomy.
Unlike usual, O’Hara’s heart is on the other side of the chest. Apparently this had no effect on death.

In addition to the Home Alone films, O’Hara is also remembered Schitt’s Creek from the series where she played Moira Rose.
O’Hara’s most recent work was shown on the Apple TV+ service The Studio -comedy series, which was released in 2025. He also received an Emmy nomination for the series.
The actress has two sons with her husband: Matthew and Luke. O’Hara and his spouse, director and set designer Bo Welch got married in 1992.
