Catching up in a wild basement duel: Braunschweig scores against Bielefeld after being 3-0 down

Eintracht Braunschweig caught up a 0:3 deficit against Arminia Bielefeld in the basement duel of the 2nd Bundesliga and keeps Arminia on the relegation place. After the 3:3 draw of the table neighbors on Sunday (March 5th, 2023), Eintracht defended 15th place with 22 points, Bielefeld (21 points) remains on the relegation place.

Hosts Braunschweig got off to a horrible start: Bielefeld’s Jomaine Consbruch shot off the post and hit the foot of keeper Jasmin Fejzic, who unluckily deflected the ball into his own goal (6′).

Bielefeld then remained mercilessly effective: Bryan Lasme also took advantage of Arminia’s second chance (11th) and made it 2-0. Guilherme Ramos even increased the lead to 3-0 with a header ten minutes later.

But Braunschweig hit back straight away: Immanuel Pherai scored the goal to make it 1:3 (21st). Pherai made it 2-3 before the break (35′) – and finally brought Eintracht back into play.

Anthony Ujah completed Braunschweig’s comeback after the break, the Joker scored shortly after being substituted on with a well-placed shot from the edge of the penalty area to make it 3-3 (72′).

Lightning start in Bielefeld

The guests from Bielefeld started extremely powerful in front of 19,758 spectators, after the early lead through the own goal of Braunschweig keeper Fejzic, Consbruch also initiated the second goal for Arminen: Fejzic unluckily let his long-range shot bounce off in the middle, Lasme switched quickly and put it on 2: 0

After the third Bielefeld goal, which Consbruch again initiated with a precise cross to defender Ramos, the Braunschweig team actually looked like the losers of the afternoon, but then started a strong comeback.

With the first successful conclusion, Pherai shortened the lead to 2:3 before the break after a dream combination with a shot into the short corner.

In the second round, both teams were more stable, but Braunschweig was clearly the more offensive team and pressed for the equaliser. Pherai’s long-range shot went just wide (60′), on the other side substitute Masaya Okugawa had a great chance, but was denied by keeper Fejzic (67′). Substitute Ujah then got too much space and scored a shot from the edge of the box to equalize.

At the start of the 24th matchday, Eintracht Braunschweig is required to play away in Nuremberg (Friday, March 10th, 2023 at 6.30 p.m.). A day later, a real mammoth task awaits Bielefeld in their own stadium with Darmstadt (1:00 p.m.).
