The director of Public Health of the Generalitat considers that the measure is not advisable for autumn, when respiratory diseases grow
The Secretary of Public Health of the Generalitat, Carmen Cabezas, explained this Friday that Catalonia “for now” will not ask for the removal of the masks, despite the fact that the measure is being applied in other countries where the incidence rates of covid are less and less. “We enter the autumn season, a time when respiratory complications and virus transmission return. That is why it costs us nothing to be a little cautious,” said Cabezas in an interview on Catalunya Ràdio.
The doctor has stated that you have to continue to wear the mask on public transporteven if there are ventilation systems that renew the air, since you are close to many people from different groups and “there is a possibility of being able to transmit the virus.”
“The mask protects us. We are only asking for it under very specific conditions: inside the cars or buses, in health centers and pharmacies. It is a protection, it costs us nothing,” said Cabezas.

Cabezas has insisted that the covid-19 is not over, but that “the data is much better“: Currently in Catalonia there are 32 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and 19 people admitted to the Intensive Care Units (ICU). “The impact is much less, but when we have 19 people admitted to the ICU, we still cannot consider that it is a past illness,” he said.
Likewise, Cabezas has stressed the importance of following precautionary measures, and has urged people over 60 years of age or people at risk to be vaccinated with the fourth dose to avoid complications.
