The Norwegian Casper Rudd moved into the final after a game with many service losses at the ATP Masters in Madrid. Francisco Cerúndolo did not use his chances late Friday afternoon (02.05.2025).

Ruud took almost two hours in a largely class -poor game with a total of 53 unchecked mistakes to reach the third 1000 final of his career – for the second time after Monte Carlo in 2024 he did it on sand. His opponent is investigated in the game between the American Jack Draper and Lorenzo Musetti from Italy, the two face each other from 8 p.m. (live ticker at Sportschau.de).

Cérundolo cannot hold the breaks

The Argentinian Cérundolo, who, among others, turned off Germanlan’s top player Alexander Zverev in two sets in Madrid, missed his first big final and was responsible for this. Cérundolo also usually gave the tone against Ruud, but repeatedly failed in the crucial situations.

He was at the front with a break three times, but each immediately received the re-break. He had 18 chances with the Ruud’s surcharges, but he could only use them three times. Then the quota at Ruud (five from nine) looked better for classes. The balance of the “unforced errors” (26:27 from the perspective of Cérundolo) was quite balanced, but Ruud also had the quieter hand in the really important moments.
