The iPhone 15 Pro had to struggle with some problems right from the start, but Apple has now fixed them with an update. Now, however, there are new complaints – from a completely different side.
The Pro model is becoming increasingly important in Apple’s concept. This year, for example, the iPhone 15 Pro will receive all the main innovations, while the “normal” iPhone 15 will primarily have the features of the iPhone 14 Pro implemented. One of these innovations for the 15 Pro was the titanium case. This is said to be particularly durable and light, but users quickly reported significant signs of wear. There were also increasing overheating problems – including with the iPhone 15. However, this was said to have had software reasons and was fixed by Apple via an update. In addition to this issue, Apple’s flagship cell phone is now facing a completely different kind of problem. Manufacturers of smartphone cases apparently have their own trouble designing a case for the iPhone 15 Pro.
Case for iPhone 15 Pro poses a challenge for manufacturers
Another innovation on the iPhone 15 Pro is the so-called Action Button. This is located on the left edge of the device above the volume control. The button therefore replaces the previously common mute switch. The advantage: The action button can be assigned as desired. The feature was adopted from the Apple Watch Ultra. The iPhone 15 Pro Max also has the new button, but the base model does not.
Overall, the reactions to the new action button on the iPhone 15 Pro are positive – but not from the case manufacturers. The Peak-Design company produces quite popular smartphone cases – including for Apple devices. And the model for the iPhone 15 series is already on the market.

Action button causes problems
However, users discovered that the case – as before – only has a cutout in the corresponding place. This was a good solution for the mute switch. However, the new button can only be used to a limited extent.
Peak Design has already commented on this. According to the company, they knew in advance about the action button on the iPhone Pro, but were unsure about its exact design and were therefore unable to react accordingly when planning the case.
In fact, the problem may not only affect Peak Design. The company only aggressively approached buyers with a video of the founder and is therefore probably the most prominent case. If you look at the iPhone 15 Pro cases from other manufacturers, they generally only seem to have a similar cutout.

Apple’s own case solution for the iPhone 15 Pro
If you look at Apple itself, the company presents a solution. The case for the iPhone 15 Pro has corresponding attachments on the left edge, as well as for the volume buttons and the power button on the right side. According to user reports, the new action button seems to be easy to use. However, a corresponding case for the iPhone 15 Pro costs just under 60 euros and is therefore slightly more expensive than most third-party providers. The case is MagSafe compatible.
The problem probably arose primarily because the case manufacturers, like the rest of the world, were in the dark about the iPhone launch. This means you can only base your design on rumors. Peak Design also confirms this. The current solution should actually be maximally flexible. The affected customers are now being accommodated and are offering immediate measures including an inlay. A revised version is scheduled to appear in November. A similar approach can also be expected from other manufacturers.
So if you buy an iPhone 15 Pro including a case, you should take a closer look! If the case for the action button only has one recess, there may be operating problems.
