Carry Knoops, Marco Borsato’s lawyer, criticizes the suggestion made in programs such as Today Inside about her client Marco Borsato. “He hasn’t gone along with the family’s mores!”

Friend and enemy agree: the mother of Marco Borsato’s accuser A. is not exactly a pedagogically responsible type. This Nathalie T. seemed to display her daughter in a quite inappropriate way: she allegedly made false images of A. and deliberately sent Marco to her room while she was naked.

Cesspool

Johan Derksen thinks that Marco has gone too much along with the free morals of the family. “He allowed himself to be led into the cesspool that was there at home. He continued to come there for twenty years,” he says in Today Inside.

Table guest Job Knoester: “I find that really incomprehensible.”

René van der Gijp: “If you now say something like: it was not possible, it was transgressive, then you should have simply said goodbye to it after two or a year and a half.”

Made a mistake

Johan thinks Marco got carried away. “Of course he also came there because he had a sexual relationship with that mother. That was the reason, but the girl was still so small at the time. He made the mistake when she said: ‘Go and comfort her, because the courtship has ended and she is naked upstairs.'”

According to Marco himself, it went much further than that. He said in court: “Everything I have collected, three large file folders full of photos, videos, screenshots, all found on mother’s work computer, is in my file. Of mother filming daughter in the shower, daughter filming mother in the shower.”

Explain in reverse

It is wrong, Marco thinks, but Wilfred Genee notes: “You can also explain this the other way around. When you see all this passing by, you think: what am I still doing?”

Johan: “Yes, then he should have distanced himself from it.”

René: “Yes, now he completely distances himself, but he was in it for eighteen years!”

Marco about this in court: “But listen, all kinds of things are being poured out on me, so it is important for me to be able to outline the context. We are all victims of this state of affairs.”

Debauched

The assumption of the gentlemen of VI, but also of other opinion makers in the media, is not correct, according to Marco’s lawyer Carry Knoops.

She says in court: “If it was so riotous in mother’s house, why didn’t you leave? The response resonated in the press: ‘Yes, then he apparently got carried away with the sexual mores of mother and daughter and therefore crossed the line.'”

Group of friends

Nonsense, says Carry. “It appears from the indictment that he has indeed spoken to the mother many times, including together with the group of friends, about the state of affairs in her house and that he has never been tempted to go along with it. There is also nothing objective in the file from which this can be deduced.”

She adds Pauw & De Wit: “He didn’t go along with it. In fact, he came there, there was a group of friends and the whole group was bothered by those mores and something was said about it every now and then. They didn’t go along with it!”

Resistance

What was done with Marco’s complaint? Carry’s husband Geert-Jan Knoops: “Mr. Borsato has confronted mother and daughter about it several times, but that provoked resistance. (…) All statements from witnesses under oath and from the group of friends, they all said: ‘He did not go along with that.’”

He continues: “You cannot consider the fact that someone with today’s perspective should have distanced themselves more at the time as proof of sexual immorality and that is what this case is all about.”

On the stairs

Many people remember the anecdote that Marco was called in panic when A. was screaming hysterically in bed because of a relationship break-up, and he was asked to come to the rescue. On the stairs, mother Nathalie winked that A. was naked on the bed. Insane, say opinion makers like Özcan Akyol. Then don’t go upstairs, they shout at VI.

Carry about this: “We are now talking about a part of the file where we all say: ‘Well, if he does that, then he must have committed that fornication!’ There is no fornication in the file!”

It only concerns touches on the leg, the lawyer emphasizes. The verdict is expected in early December.
