Caroline van der Plas is right: horror figures for Micha Wertheim

Caroline van der Plas’ last tweet of the year was about Micha Wertheim’s New Year’s Eve conference. She thought it was that bad. And apparently she wasn’t the only one… “Worst views EVER!”

BNNVARA has traditionally had a monopoly on the New Year’s Eve conference and that means that there must be a certain progressive sound in such a show, but after the last election results you may wonder to what extent that still matches what appeals to the viewer at home. One thing is certain: Micha Wertheim and his cabaret are not one of them…

‘Worst EVER!’

Caroline van der Plas was sitting on the couch on New Year’s Eve watching Micha’s conference and was completely shocked. “Next year Hans Teeuwen please. #newyearsconference #BNNVARA 😭,” she wrote in her latest X message of the year. Many people agreed with her, others found it polarizing.

Anyway: Caroline is now right with the ratings. “There’s low and low, but soooo low. Phew,” ratings authority Tina Nijkamp wrote to her analysis channel. “Micha Wertheim didn’t want any viewers and that worked out well. Only 876 thousand. And that makes it the WORST watched New Year’s Eve conference EVER.”

Worse than Claudia

And not just a little bit, Tina continues. “Before this, the worst viewed ever was that of 2010 by Erik van Muiswinkel with 1.1 million viewers. The number two of worst-watched conferences is that of Marc Marie Huijbregts in 2018, but he still recorded a linear 1.5 million viewers.”

Claudia de Breij had a linear audience of 1.6 million viewers last year. “In 2021, Peter Pannekoek had almost 2 million linear viewers and Youp had 2.7 million in 2020. Claudia scored 1.8 million in 2019.”

Finkers in the lead

Which comedian do people like most on New Year’s Eve? “The linear most watched New Year’s Eve conference of this century is Herman Finkers’s in 2015: 3 million viewers. Including postponed, that even reached 3.8 million viewers.”

She continues: “Micha also had very few young viewers. Only 12.8 percent market share in the commercial target group 25 to 54 years old. Micha may not worry about it, but don’t think the NPO is satisfied with this. This is simply very shocking and a huge disappointment.”

Big winner

The ratings winner on New Year’s Eve was The Masked Singer with 1.7 million viewers on RTL 4. “And so a few masked puppets make mincemeat of the Dutch tradition called the New Year’s Eve conference, which has been broadcast on TV since 1969. Both programs were programmed directly opposite each other.”

By the way, found de Volkskrant Micha Wertheim’s New Year’s Eve conference was great fun. “New Year’s Eve experiment more than successful,” says the newspaper.
