As the legal guardian, Beate L. *(49) from Marzahn lovingly looked after a frail old lady. Went shopping with her, had ice cream… went on trips with her, even small trips. The fact that she was clammy and secretly plundering her account only came out when another supervisor was to be used.
In just under a year, she had withdrawn money for herself 91 times. Over 86,000 euros in total.
Admitting that was really not easy for the innkeeper on Wednesday in the infidelity trial before the district court. “It was quite a funny story,” she began ramblingly.
“Christel had no relatives. I was like a daughter to her.” She often visited the old lady in the home, also with her “little dog”. When she asked her to take over her care, she didn’t say “no” because of that.
“Bring me some money,” Christel asked her again and again. She gave her a bank card and pin for it. And when the defendant wanted to open a snack bar in Rudow, she immediately decided: “I’ll give you credit.” She didn’t want to know that she, as a supervisor, was not allowed to accept the offer. Nor that she had to meticulously prove and account for all expenses.
The accused: “At some point I had sought help in a care association and received a stack of leaflets. But by then it was already too late.”

These statements were still miles away from a confession announced at the beginning of the trial. Dissatisfied, the judge therefore interrupted the hearing twice for “pauses for reflection”. With success.
Yes, she simply withdrew money – “for the snack and her own way of life,” the accused admitted frankly on the third attempt. And it was already clear to her at the time that she wasn’t allowed to do that. “I’m very sorry about all this.”
As soon as she can, she wants to pay the money back to the heirs of those who have since died.
The judge was finally able to happily tick that off as a confession. He let the unfaithful Beate get away with a black eye despite a relevant criminal record, her nasty abuse of trust and the high damage: “Two years on probation. For once again.”
