The French court ordered Cardiff City to pay approximately £400,000 for non-pecuniary damages and legal costs incurred by Nantes. The 104 million pound compensation claim requested by the English team Cardiff City after the death of Argentinian football player Emiliano Sala in a plane crash was rejected by the French Court.
Nantes Commercial Court announced its decision in the legal and financial dispute initiated by the English representative competing in the 3rd League in May 2023 and pitting Cardiff City against Nantes.
The court rejected Cardiff City’s £104 million compensation claim for loss of income and other damages, claiming that Argentine football player Sala could keep the club in the Premier League.
The court also ordered Cardiff City to pay approximately £400,000 for non-pecuniary damages and legal costs incurred by Nantes.
28-year-old Sala and pilot David Ibbotson, who transferred from Nantes to Cardiff City, died when their plane crashed into the English Channel on the night of January 21, 2019.
