Unique story
—
The relationship between Alfa Romeo and the Carabinieri originates after the Second World War with theAlfa Romeo 1900 M “Matta” from 1951, the off-road vehicle that marked the official beginning of the partnership: a robust, essential vehicle, designed to meet the concrete needs of an Army committed to rebuilding the civil fabric of the country. Once the period of 1900 sedan and Juliet was over, the years of the economic boom brought the Juliain service from 1963 to 1968 and with which the “Gazzella” of the Radiomobile Nucleus was born, symbol of emergency response, and the Giulia Super from 1968, a refined and fast sedan that combined service performance with the elegance that is the historic hallmark of the brand. Terrorism and the Years of Lead are represented byAlfetta 2.0 “Protected” from 1979, an armored sedan used in escort services. The 80s and 90s instead saw the protagonistAlpha 90 of 1987 and theAlpha 75 of 1992, a season in which the visible presence of the State on the territory was itself a message of firmness and trust. Finally, recent years have seen the emergence of several new models, and with them the technological developments that accompanied them: fromAlpha 156 from 1999 toAlpha 159 of 2006, from Juliet of 2016 at Julia of 2021, from Tonal of 2023 at Stelvio of 2025. Many of these cars are present in the Museum, in the “Alfa Romeo in uniform” section created in collaboration with the Carabinieri and inaugurated on 24 June 2020 on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the Biscione. As stated by Lorenzo Ardiziocurator of the Arese Museum: “With the opening of this section, we have covered a chapter in the history of Alfa Romeo that was missing and which was much appreciated by visitors”.
values and shared identity
—
“The relationship between the Carabinieri and Alfa Romeo was born thanks to a path of shared values, and has grown well beyond a commercial dimension, to the point of taking the form of an authentic common path based on mutual trust and service to the country”. With these words the general commander of the Carabinieri, Salvatore Luongounderlined the importance of this historic partnership. “Since 1951 – he continued -, Alfa Romeos with the Carabinieri on board have traveled every Italian road, becoming a concrete and immediately recognizable sign of the presence of the State. It is not just a question of performance or safety, although fundamental, but also of identity: seeing a gazelle Getting closer means, for the citizen, knowing that they are not alone. The recognisability of these vehicles contributes significantly to the construction of the perception of safety, strengthening the relationship of trust which is the basis of the action of the Force. In this sense, the value of the cars is twofold: operational, because they guarantee effectiveness and timeliness in interventions; symbolic, because they visually embody the closeness of the State to the community”. Holy FiciliCEO of Alfa Romeo, for his part highlighted how the brand is “part of the collective memory of our country, as are the Carabinieri. Two different symbols, but united by a history made of passion, discipline, dedication and speed at the service of the common good. From the first years after the Second World War to today, our cars accompany the women and men of the force in their daily missions, becoming true icons of Italian automotive and institutional culture. The book presented today pays homage to a long alliance made up of mutual trust and respect: a tribute to all those who, in the silence of the streets or in the most excited moments, drove an Alfa Romeo with pride and responsibility”.
