The winter dirt has to go. In spring, at the latest, many people start a thorough car wash. If you want to use a high-pressure cleaner, you should pay attention to a few things.

Has your car gotten that dingy too? Time for a spring cleaning. If you also want to wash with the high-pressure cleaner, you should do it carefully. “Not all of these cleaning helpers are intended for a car,” says Eberhard Lang from Tüv Süd.

He advises only so-called flat jet nozzles.

These spray the water in a wide, fan-shaped jet. They are usually used in car washes, workshops, wash bays and petrol stations. And with a minimum distance of 30 centimeters to tires and body surfaces, these are good tools.

Models with so-called rotation or point jet nozzles, on the other hand, are intended for industrial applications or for cleaning the patio at home. When used on the car, they can cause damage, which is why the TÜV Süd advises against it.

Be careful with the convertible – better not with high pressure

Lang generally advises against using high-pressure cleaners on textile convertible roofs. If used improperly, they could “really shred” the soft roof and destroy the impregnation of textile roofs.

You shouldn’t do an engine wash with it either. This is something for professionals. A layman with a high-pressure cleaner can cause serious damage to the vehicle electronics in the engine compartment.
