From January you can park bikes, motorcycles, pedelecs in all car parks in Berlin – FREE!
In the new year, the fees for drivers in the payment zones will increase by one euro to 2, 3 and 4 euros per hour.
Even worse for many: The fight for the rare parking spaces on the side of the road will increase. Because the “general exemption from the parking fee obligation is intended to encourage users of other types of vehicles to make greater use of these traffic areas.” According to a statement by Transport Senator Bettina Jarasch (54, Greens).
“We are now opening up the parking spaces for bicycles free of charge,” confirmed Transport Senate spokesman Jan Thomsen.
Bike lobbyist Ragnhild Sörensen (Changing Cities): “A solid step towards more space justice.” From her point of view, it will be easier to park bikes and the often “insurmountable car barrier” more permeable for pedestrians.
According to one count, there are around 229,249 parking spaces within the S-Bahn ring. By the end of 2023, she wants to make everything red-green-red on the streets subject to a charge – but only for cars.
