A car fell into the water in the Drentsehoofdvaart between Meppel and Nijeveen at the end of the afternoon. The driver was pulled from the water by bystanders.
The driver has been taken to hospital. It is not clear how the accident occurred.
The A32 was closed for some time. A salvage company will work with divers to remove the car from the water.
