Serious accident on Wednesday morning in City-West. According to BZ information, a silver Renault small car drove into a group of people at the intersection of Rankestrasse and Tauentzienstrasse. One person is said to have died, according to the fire department, around 30 people were injured.

According to the police, the accident happened around 10.30 a.m. near the Memorial Church and the Ku’damm.

The driver is said to have initially driven back onto the road and only stopped about 200 meters further in a Douglas branch.

Numerous rescue workers were deployed, a helicopter landed on the Tauentzien.

The driver was arrested at the scene by police. Several heavily armed police officers secured the area.

The police spokesman, Thilo Cablitz, said: “We do not know at this point in time whether it was an intentional act or a traffic accident.”
