Several abuses were discovered at a car company in Assen at the end of last year. Laughing gas bottles and a stolen vehicle were found in the building. The company also made a mistake with incorrectly storing and disposing of hazardous substances.

The municipality of Assen reports that a total of six car companies were inspected on two occasions (November 21 and December 19, 2024). That happened unannounced. Violations were only found at the above-mentioned company.

The checks are part of the fight against so-called subversive crime. Organized crime uses companies, entrepreneurs and other organizations for their prohibited activities. “We want to prevent unsuspecting people or companies from unintentionally coming into contact with criminals with these checks,” explains Marco Out, mayor of Assen. “But also that criminal organizations, for example, launder money in this way.”

In addition to the municipality and the police, the RDW, the Drenthe Environment Agency and the Labor Inspectorate were also active in the action. Which car company in Assen committed the violations has not been revealed due to privacy legislation. The police investigation into the car company focuses on fencing and the possession of soft drugs.
