Car catches fire on E17 in Aalbeke

The Frenchman was just driving across the border when he saw smoke coming from his vehicle. Just before 8 p.m., he called 911. When the man approached the interchange with the E403 in the direction of Antwerp, the car smoked even more. He then parked his car on the side of the highway and pulled himself to safety. Within minutes, the vehicle caught fire. The man in his thirties escaped unscathed, but almost nothing is left of his car.

The fire brigade and towage service had their hands full, which meant that traffic was temporarily blocked. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
