Hope for big farewell party

The paths of Lewis Holtby and Holstein Kiel separate in summer. The storks released a video on Sunday, in which the 34 -year -old midfielder announced his farewell. The captain has decided not to extend his expiring contract with the Bundesliga promoter after four years. It has not yet been determined how things will continue for Holtby 2025/26. The veteran had switched from the Blackburn Rovers to the fjord in 2021 and has since come to 102 games in which he reached seven goals and 20 templates. Holtby for Hamburger SV has the most missions for a club (138).

“We have been in a very trusting exchange with Lewis for a long time,” said Kiel’s sports director Carsten Wehlmann. “Now he has made a decision for himself and his family, which we of course respect. This open handling testifies to mutual appreciation and shows how professionally Lewis works. With his focus and attitude, he is a role model for everyone. He has shaped the such successful path of the past few years on the pitch, his leadership role in the cabin and his personality and is one of the names that will remain connected to the club forever. Before the paths separate, we want to do everything we can to achieve our big common goal. ”

Holtby said: “First of all, I would like to thank you for the confidence and the discussions with everyone involved throughout the time. It was important to me to involve the club in my plans at an early stage and thus create for all clarity. Therefore, I approached those responsible and informed them that I would like to do something new from summer and will therefore not extend my contract. This allows us all to put the topic aside and fully focus on our big common goal until the end of the season. And when I say goodbye in summer, I will remember this club as one of the most beautiful station in my career. What I have been able to experience here in recent years was simply unique. Let’s enjoy the last few weeks together and fight together to celebrate a big farewell party. ”
