Capital-forming benefits – with VL there’s extra money from the boss

ETFs for a capital-forming benefit fund savings plan

Investors are particularly well off with the synthetically replicating one Xtrackers MSCI World Swap UCITS ETF 1C (ISIN LU0274208692/WKN DBX1MW). The fund is published by the Deutsche Bank subsidiary Xtrackers. Stiftung Warentest gave this ETF the grade “1. Wahl” and the running costs are 0.45 percent.

We can also recommend the ComStage MSCI World TRN UCITS ETF (ISIN LU0392494562/WKN ETF110). With the ETF of the Commerzbank subsidiary ComStage, the fees are manageable and are 0.20 percent per year. This is a distributing ETF that indirectly (synthetically) tracks the MSCI World Index. This ETF also scored the top mark of “1. choice”.

A third ETF is VL-capable with some depot providers: the iShares Core MSCI World UCITS ETF (ISIN IE00B4L5Y983/WKN A0RPWH). It physically replicates the MSCI World, the type of distribution is accumulating. The fund of the BlackRock subsidiary received the rating “1. Choice”. With 0.20 percent running, annual fund costs, the ETF is just as cheap as the ComStage ETF.

Tip: You can find a detailed explanation of these terms and how to buy ETFs in our ETF savings plan, MSCI World ETF and ETF buying guides. We have explained all important terms relating to funds and ETFs for you in the ETF lexicon.

The STOXX Europe 600 lists the 600 largest companies from 18 European countries. These are mainly companies from Great Britain and Switzerland. We recommend that Xtracker’s STOXX Europe 600 (ISIN LU0328475792/WKN DBX1A7). It physically replicates the underlying index using optimized sampling and reinvests the returns in the fund’s assets (accumulating). With annual fees of 0.20 percent, the ETF of the Deutsche Bank subsidiary is one of the cheaper index funds and also receives the grade “1. Choice”.

However, for VL savings you need a VL-capable securities account that allows VL savings plans. This is mainly done via (expensive) branch banks, which often do not have many recommendable VL funds to choose from. Another option to get VL funds are custodian banks. But of these, not many offer VL funds and you need to contact a fund bank through a fund intermediary. That costs extra money. In the following we briefly present the best VL depots.
