Cancer shock for volleyball coach Aleksandersen

The Stuttgart volleyball coach Tore Aleksandersen has prostate cancer in the final stages, but suppresses his disease as best he can.

“I try to show my children that I’m sick, but not sick. At some point the devil will come, but until then I will fight and stand up to him,” said the Norwegian in an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”.

“Of course I could say to myself every day, damn it, how nice it would be to just have a month of my old life back. Just wake up feeling full of energy. But I’m very realistic: this is my life now. “

With the volleyball team from Allianz MTV Stuttgart, Aleksandersen won the championship and cup. On February 8, Stuttgart can reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League against Tenerife for the first time. “We’ll do it too, I’m convinced of that,” says the Norwegian.

His team is aware of the coach’s health problems. “The team also knows about the immunotherapy that will start soon. The players are then curious, ask questions. And sometimes they are a bit shocked,” he said.

Once he had to ask the health insurance company to send an important letter by email instead of by post because there had just been a strike at the post office. “I then had to leave my cell phone on in training and wait for the message. I said to the team: If this is sent by post, I’ll be dead before the letter arrives. Some of the players said: ‘Coach, you can do that Don’t tell her.'”
