Canada’s junior league in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) has handed down an exceptionally long suspension to the defenseman of the Brampton Steelheads Luke Dragusica.

The suspension is related to the situation that happened in the match between Brampton and the Oshawa Generals, where Dragusica hit a Generals player Brady Blasegia to the head with a scythe and after that with a cross club.

The incident resulted in an ejection in the match.

The OHL said on Friday that Dragusica has been banned from both the regular season and possible playoffs for the rest of the season.

The length of the suspension means at least 49 games missed. According to the league, the decision is based on an extensive review, which included video footage, match reports, interviews and club statements.

– Deliberate use of a stick as a weapon to the opponent’s head, followed by additional contact with a defenseless player, is a dangerous and completely unacceptable act that has no place in the OHL, the league’s press release states.

The ban also includes mandatory participation in the OHL’s program, which includes anger management training and charity work for the benefit of the community.

The OHL is one of Canada’s three junior leagues. The OHL, QMJHL and WHL together form the Canadian Hockey League (CHL).
