Canada’s World Cup tournament ended again with a loss in the quarterfinals.

In Canada, this weekend, the country’s poor puck success is being discussed as it sometimes is in Finland. Gavin McKenna (left) is one of the country’s puck super talents. PDO

Canada, the host of the Under-20 Ice Hockey World Championship, played five games and lost three during the competition.

For the second time in a row, Canada is out of the medal games of the tournament. It is a huge topic of discussion and wonder in the country this weekend.

– The biggest question in Canada at the moment is why the team didn’t have more skilled, skilled players. They left out many high NHL bookings, thinks the commentator of the TSN channel Gord Miller.

– They made sure choices. They brought in players who are good at both ends of the field, but why wasn’t more skill involved, the commentator asks.

Who chose?

Gord Miller needed more skill players for Canada’s World Cup team. PDO

Miller has perspective to talk about junior hockey. The man is going to his 30th under-20 World Cup tournament in the commentary booth. He also reports on the weekend’s semifinals and final.

Who picked Canada’s World Cup team?

– There is a group doing it. Of course, the team does not include players that the head coach does not want. The philosophy was clear. No risky choices of any kind were wanted. Canada has made such mistakes in the past.

– Maybe the matter was simply overthought. Bring the best players. If you don’t win, you still did your best. If you don’t choose the best players, there will always be room for criticism, Miller reflects.

Not a disaster

Even though Canada is in a bit of a slump, Miller doesn’t want to bury the country’s hockey.

– Is this a disaster for Canadian hockey – no. Gavin McKenna is still a major talent who will become a superstar. There is no need to overreact, as we have sometimes done. In the big picture, Canada still produces good players, Miller assures.

Finland took care of its bread in the World Cup tournament so that the team plays in the semifinals. Timo Kunnari
