Usually, action movies focus on chases and the big plan of the main villain. So too In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Onein the seventh installment of the Tom Cruise film series.
However, the film goes one step further.
Ethan Hunt (Cruise) finds himself in front of the toughest place in his adventures when he faces something that cannot be stopped: advanced technology. The hero of the film concretely fights against the algorithm, which feels inventive and modern.

The enemy is invisible. It doesn’t exist, but at the same time it could be anyone. An essential part of the subject to be discussed is, for example, deepfake technology, i.e. so-called deep image forgeries, which has caused a lot of problems and moral questions today.

Christopher McQuarrie the film only takes a small step into a possible future. Dystopia is so subtle and believable that it sometimes reminds me of HBO’s excellent miniseries Years and Years (2019).
The seventh film keeps the quality of the Mission: Impossible film series high, raising the bar a bit from the previous one From Fallout. Although Ethan Hunt is a superior agent, he is still human.
The humanity is enhanced by the organic humor, but also by the paranoia that fighting against technology causes. It inevitably brings to mind other social questions as well: is it reasonable to invest everything in a working technology, when in practice everything can collapse in an instant?

During the past year, we have also received an important reminder of how inactive society would be without electricity. Acquiring and preparing food, heating homes, communicating and even flushing the toilet are largely dependent on electricity. In the end, the functioning of society is very small.
One of the key things in the film are its stunts, which are not done against the so-called green screen, but in real filming locations. Special effects are on the side. Unlike, say, the new one Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny – movie, Cruise is actually seen jumping on the roof of the train.
The stunts were really a risk, riding down the mountain on a motorcycle and parachute flights are real, and it shows in the final result.
