A remarkable sight on the boardwalk through the Grolloërveen. A camper fell through the walking and cycling path there. How it should get out of there is still the big question, says Staatsbosbeheer.

The incident happened yesterday around the beginning of the evening, when campers took the wrong turn, drove onto the decking path and came to a stop in the middle of the special walking-cycling path because the decking broke down.

Also an exceptional situation for Staatsbosbeheer, forest ranger Linde Veldhoen explains. “Our boa was present last night and recorded the situation. Those people are very shocked,” says Veldhoen.

The biggest job for Staatsbosbeheer now consists of removing the camper from the boardwalk. “That camper cannot simply be removed. It takes quite some effort. It is not yet clear how we are going to do that.”

For example, Staatsbosbeheer is investigating whether road plates can be placed on the deck, over which the camper can drive backwards.”

The fact that the Groloërveen is a vulnerable nature reserve poses an additional risk. “We hope that we can get the camper out in one piece. But the camper is not damaged, not even at the bottom, so no good luck.”

The path is temporarily out of use and closed. That is why the cycling and walking junctions will also be diverted.

The campers have been fined for driving on the boardwalk. “Our boa did write out a report, because they were on a path where they are not allowed to go by car.” The damage caused to the decking path will have to be dealt with by insurance, Veldhoen said.
