There are very good actresses, but Camila Peralta It’s in another category. I know that I am not alone in this crusade, I feel accompanied by the multitudes that succumbed to it in the work “Suavecita”but I reaffirm the theory because we are having coffee in Ouro Preto and all the staff gather to ask him for a photo. “Hey, Solita! When is the second of “In the mud”?, they ask, calling her by the name of the endearing character she plays in the series. The bar workers can’t even imagine what that selfie will be worth in a few months. Only in recent times, Camila premiered the films “Adulto” and “Nancy”, filmed the two seasons of “En el mud”, made three plays, “Suavecita”, “Un tira cada uno” and “Madre Ficcion”, filmed the story of “Pepita la pistolera”, with Luisana Lopilato, directed by Lucía Puenzo, she is one of the star protagonists of the series “Gordon” along with Rodrigo de la Serna and will become a national symbol when we see her and let’s listen to a project that cannot yet be told. I confirm, Camila Peralta is in another category and we all already realized it.

News: He recently premiered “Mother Fiction,” by Mariano Tenconi Blanco. There she plays the girlfriend of the protagonist, Diego Velázquez, and in an unexpected twist, also his grandmother. How could that happen?

Camila Peralta: (Laughs) Diego’s character lives harassed by family femininities! The work has autobiographical elements by Tenconi Blanco, but highly fictionalized, because Mariano’s fiction comes out of his pores. It’s about a playwright who is commissioned to do a play for the National Comedy of Montevideo and the guy can’t write it. Writer’s block is a classic, but in this case perhaps there is a reason: his mother is Uruguayan and his grandmother too, both arrived in Argentina escaping in some way. Something internal prevents him from moving forward with the assignment, but he starts writing a diary about what he cannot do and meets a girl with whom he falls deeply in love, Jennifer, the character I play. How do I also become his grandmother? You have to see “Mother Fiction”! We have a great cast, in addition to Diego Velázquez there is Valeria Lois, spectacular like her mother and Marcos Ferrante, who plays a lot of unusual characters, not even playing Osvaldo Laport was saved! (laughs).

News: You had already worked with Mariano Tenconi Blanco in “The Captives”, right?

Peralta: Yes, she had replaced Laura Paredes in the play. I saw it on video a thousand times because my job was to take up something that another actress was already doing, it didn’t seem to me that I could add little things. However, there was something that surprised me, I found a director who allowed me to play, to propose, and that makes me happy. I went to do the homework well and suddenly he told me: “You can do another homework, yours” and then he told me that he wanted to work with me again. Theater is incredible, I love it, that’s why although I was also filming many hours, I decided to do it.

News: Let’s say that he wasn’t filming just anything but “Gordon”, the series about the book by Marcelo Larraquy, directed by Pablo Trapero and Pablo Fendrik, which will premiere on Netflix. Is that where the central female character, Juliet, plays?

Peralta: Affirmative, I am Julieta, I see that you have already been handling the book, eh (laughs). “Gordon” is a gigantic project and I feel that it is very crazy because I live it naturally, as if I have been doing it for a long time. But sometimes I come home and think that I’m working with people I’ve admired all my life. Pablo Trapero’s movies drove me crazy when I was stupid, “Leonera”, I saw it 100 times! (we laugh). Rodrigo de la Serna also drove me crazy and drives me crazy now that I have him in front of me, he is an incredible actor. Suddenly I meet them and say: “Oh, of course, we are in the same thing, as people passionate about what they do, putting everything into it.”

News: Julieta is a character that has chiaroscuros in the book. Was it a challenge playing someone who is attracted to evil?

Peralta: It was difficult for me because in the book Julieta is told in a different way, there are certain contradictions of the character that are not so present in the series. She is a mine that goes further forward, straight to the objective, she is someone who always had that kind of darkness inside and the context made it possible for her to express it. At first it wasn’t easy because I really like working with contradictions, it amuses me and it seemed strange to me to create someone so terrible… but now I’m really excited. It’s a nice challenge to tell this character who is standing on a horrible side of history. We must assume that there are shady, psychopathic people, they are attracted to evil, they like it.

News: Next year, in addition to “Gordon,” the second season of “In the Mud” is coming. How did you deal with the massiveness that the series reached?

Peralta: It was crazy, you witness that they recognize me now! (Laughs) Lately it had been happening to me with “Suavecita”, but “In the mud” was massive, I have a billion messages on the networks, it was more popular than I thought, it is not so bad that there is a series that is full of women. Look what they sent me today (searches their cell phone)… these photos were sent to me by some girls I don’t know and who recreated scenes from the series, look how well they captured the characters! They made a fan fiction production, well, those amazing things happen.

News: We demand that her character, the lighter Solita, have more participation in the second, will it be?

Peralta: I already have a handle! Yes, in the second one my character has a rush, he grows a little and I want to see how that turned out now. I do several things with China Suárez and with Anita Garibaldi too, let’s learn more about Solita’s story. When I joined the project they told me that in the second season I was going to have much more participation and they have delivered.

News: He survived the first one, which is no small thing.

Peralta: I swear we looked in books to see who was still alive (laughs). It was the biggest challenge I had at an acting level, we worked full time for more than 6 months, with indescribable cold and little clothing, all day with the hot water bottle on us, but I never went to work with so much enthusiasm. We all became very good friends, it was about going to have fun, to have a good time.

News: You can tell he enjoyed it by the way he tells it.

Peralta: It’s just that staying in that project that was important to me, Underground was a place where I really wanted to be. She had auditioned to be Diosito’s girlfriend in “El Marginal”. I was really sad because I didn’t stay, in the end that character was played by La Joaqui. Now I think that that casting was lucky because it gave me the opportunity to now be in “En el mud.” Underground is a production company that allows another type of acting and gives a lot of freedom, they always ask you to add your contributions to the character and that is great. Look, giving me the chance to fool around and improvise with Rita Cortese for a while is the best thing in the world, that’s it.

News: Something unusual happened to you, a play put you on the radar. Did “Suavecita” change your life?

Peralta: Totally and I still can’t believe it. Yesterday I was in a place eating and a girl says to me: “Congratulations”, I answered “thank you” thinking it was for “In the mud”, but she was referring to “Suavecita”. It is a mystery what happens with that work, I feel that perhaps the love it awakens is because of the story it tells, that of how my character becomes a bit of a pagan saint. I think those types of stories move us. And then there is something with one-person shows that has happened to me, when I see actresses like Vale Lois on stage, I am very excited about how a single person can tell a story and have the audience pay to sit and listen to it. It’s very nice when that is achieved with minimal resources, with everyday things, doing everything with your body and that transports you to another world like when we were kids.
