Cameroon wins African Cup opening match despite André Onana blunder | Football

Cameroon was stronger than Burkina Faso in the first phase, but fell behind. After a header was taken off the line in a few seconds and a cross grazed the bar, goalkeeper André Onana was completely wrong with the subsequent cross by his former Ajax teammate Bertrand Traoré. He had to watch as Gustavo Sangaré worked the opening goal into the empty goal.

Cameroon still went into halftime with a lead, although it took two stupid fouls – the first was by Traoré – by Burkina Faso. Vincent Aboubakar scored in both cases from the penalty spot.

In the second, Onana also got a chance to somewhat rectify his blunder herself. After a low free kick came at the feet of Adam Guira, he made a good save. It was also Burkina Faso’s biggest chance in the hunt for the equalizer. Cameroon was actually even closer to 3-1, but Aboubakar’s third goal was disallowed.
