Even just before the winter break, there are calls from German fans to boycott the World Cup in Qatar. Clear appeals are also made in the second division.

On the last day of the Bundesliga match before the winter break, numerous fans in German stadiums protested against the controversial World Cup in Qatar. Hertha BSC supporters in the east stand of the Olympic Stadium held up posters that read “Boycott Qatar”.

In addition, before the game against 1. FC Köln, a large banner with the same inscription and one with the imprint “No Herthan watch the World Cup in Qatar” was shown.

“Complicit in tens of thousands of deaths!”

FC Augsburg fans also spoke out in favor of a boycott of the World Cup in Qatar and also showed a crossed-out logo of the German Football Association. There were also protests against the World Cup among supporters of the second division Hamburger SV and 1. FC Heidenheim. “Anyone who watches just one World Cup game is complicit in the deaths of tens of thousands!” It said in capital letters on banners from Heidenheim fans.

A week ago, the “Boycott Qatar 2022” initiative called on all football fans to demonstrate their opposition to the tournament in Qatar. The initiative is aimed at supporters from the Bundesliga to the district class.

Before the World Cup from November 20 to December 18, Qatar has long been criticized for human rights abuses and the treatment of workers from other countries. The emirate’s government refers to its own reforms and rejects some of the criticism.
