Chef Dick Middelweerd calls on all restaurants in the Netherlands and surrounding countries to keep two minutes of silence on thunder evening at eight o’clock in memory of top chef Jonnie Boer, who died on Wednesday. The chef and owner of star restaurant De Treeswijkhoeve in Waalre makes his call on Instagram.

Middelweerd says that on Thursday evening in his restaurants it will be quiet at eight o’clock. “The kitchen comes to rest, as a tribute to our friend Jonnie. The service stands still, as support for Thérèse, Jimmie, Isabelle and the entire Librije family.”

He invites all ‘culinary friends’ at home and abroad to join the promotion. “Stand with us. For Jonnie. For Thérèse, Jimmie, Isabelle and the entire Librije family.”

After the two minutes of silence, a bottle of bubbles is pulled open, according to Middelweerd. “At 8.02 pm we all toast with a glass of champagne on Jonnie. Love, Ron, Hans, Sidney, Sergio and all members of Alliance Gastronomique.”

Cas Spijkers Academy
Jonnie Boer died on Wednesday on Bonaire from a pulmonary embolism. He was affiliated with the Cas Spijkers Academy in Breda, where the Eredivisie is trained for chefs. Boer supervised the training direct and assessed students during admission exams, among other things.

Together with his wife he ran restaurant De Librije in Zwolle, the only restaurant in the Netherlands with three Michelin stars. He was known for his innovative cooking style. Boer was 60 years old.
