The cabinet wants to “strongly focus on more women” in high positions within ministries and in the government in a broader sense, it announced on Friday after the cabinet meeting. The target figures have been adjusted within ministries and implementing organizations: within five years every organization must achieve ’45 to 55 percent women in the (sub)top’. Women will be given priority in new appointments if this helps to achieve the targets. Since January, there has been a law to get more women at the top of business. However, the cabinet believes that the government should also “look at itself”. The initiative follows recent unrest at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the large number of men who would be appointed to top positions. A letter of fire was then handed over to this effect, signed by hundreds of mainly female officials. (NRC)
