The cabinet makes € 54 million in a subsidy available to Rockwool, OCI and Fibrant to further reduce Ammonia’s emissions in the industry. Thanks to this subsidy, these companies can invest in advanced techniques, such as Wassers, with which they considerably reduce their ammonia emissions. This initiative is part of the previously announced approach to peak load industry and contributes to a more sustainable and cleaner basic industry.

With this subsidy scheme, an annual nitrogen reduction of 216,000 kilos is achieved. In total, this approach helps the basic industry to reduce more than 30% of ammonia emissions. The support of the government enables companies to take the necessary sustainability steps and to reduce their impact on the environment.

Minister Sophie Hermans (climate and green growth): “The industry is indispensable in the Netherlands. With this subsidy we help companies to reduce their ammonia emissions considerably, in addition to the legal obligations. This is a good example of how industry and government can work together on cleaner production processes and a strong industry, more sustainable and a livable industry.”

The regulation is specifically aimed at measures that are not legally required for industry, but that can make a major contribution to reducing nitrogen emissions. Companies could register through a tender, the subsidies were assigned by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency to the most cost -efficient and effective plans. The selected projects must be completed by 2028 at the latest.

The large number of applications exceed the available budget, which is why the ministry is investigating the possibilities of continuing this approach. The government continues to work for an effective reduction of nitrogen emissions and supports companies in the necessary transition to a more sustainable future.
